<u>Edward Winslow,</u> of Kempsey and Droitwich, son of Kenelm and Catherine Winslow, was born October 17, 1560, at the Parish of St. Andrew, Worcester County. England. He probably married, first, Eleanor Pelham, of Droitwich; and married, secon d, at St. Bride's Church, London, Nov. 4, 1594, Magdalene Ollyver. The records of this family are to be found in the Parish Register of St. Peter's, Droitwich. He died before 1631. His first child was apparently the son of his first wife, and th e others all the children of his second wife, judging by the dates of their births.
Children of Edward Winslow:
1. Richard, b. about l585-6; m. about 1605 Alice (Hay), daughter of Edward Hurdman; residence Draycoat, in Parish of Kempsey; d. May 20, 1659
2. Edward (afterwards Governor of Plymouth Colony), b. Oct. 18, 1595, Droitwich, England; d. May 8, 1655. He married at Leyden, Holland, May 16, 1618, Elizabeth Barker. They came to America in the Mayflower in 1620. She died soon afterwards, a nd he married, second, May 12, 1621, Susanna (Fuller) White, whose husband had died soon after settling at Plymouth.
3. John, b. April 16, 1597, at Droitwich; m. Oct. 12, l624, Mary, daughter of James and Susanna Chilton, at Plymouth, Mass. They removed to Boston in 1656, where he died in 1674 and she died in 1679.
4. Eleanor, b, April 22, 1598, Droitwich, She remained in England.
5. Kenelm, b. April 29, 1599, Droitwich
6. Gilbert, b. Oct. 26, 1600, Droitwich; came to New England with his brother Edward in 1620; returned to England, where he probably died
7. Elizabeth, b, March 6, 1602, Droitwich; buried Jan. 20, 1605, according to the records of St. Peter's Parish
8. Magdalen, b. Dec. 26, 1604, Droitwich; remained in England
9. Josiah, b. Feb. 11, 1606, Droitwich; m. 1636, Margaret Bourne. He died at Marshfield, Mass., Dec. 1, 1674; she died October 1683.
Note: "The Mayflower Planters" by Leon Clark Hills states that Robert Hicks who arrived in Plymouth in 1621 in the Fortune married in London in 1610 Margaret Winslow, a sister of the Winslow brothers of the Mayflower. She is stated to have bee n the first woman teacher in America. She and her daughter Phebe and perhaps other children arrived at Plymouth in the Ann in 1622. She is not mentioned in the list above.
