<u><b>KATARINA BODENHAUSEN </b></u>Transcribed from Joan's story in "yellow book" Katarina (Katherine) came to America from Germany sometime in the mid 19th century (between 1850 and 1860). She arrived on a sailing ship with trunks full of clothes, etc. John Buhle had sent for her to be his second wife. After all the children were born, John left them. Emily was sent to Livingston to live with her sister, Henrietta to get the fresh country air and this is where she met John Ashby. Katarina spoke German with her daughter Henrietta, and her daughter, Emily and her grandaughter, Carol. Some of our family sayings come from this, such as ginderfoot, grosmudder (Grossie), etc. I am assuming all the children were born in Brooklyn as that is where they lived.
