"George Michael Schmidt - Johann Jacob Schmidt
This Dutcheww Co., N.Y. resident came with other emigrants from 7140 Poppenweiler (12 km. s.w. of Backnang; Churchbooks begin 1576). The grandfather of the emigrant was Hans Bernhard Schmidt, citizen and ploughman who died 27 Jan 1725, aged 82 years less 1 month and 16 days. His wife was named Barbara, and she died 28 April 1716, aged 68-6-8, having been married 49-3-8. The New York line was carried on by their son Hans Georg Schmidt. Hans Jerg, son of the bauermann Hans Bernard Schmid, married 20 November 1713 Regina, daughter of Jerg Mutschler, shepherd in Affalterbach. Georg Schmid was buried 7 July, 1735, aged 63 years less 4 months and a few days, and Regina his widow died 22 March 1754,aged 55 years. Jacob Schmidt, son of Hanns Georg and Regina Schmidt of Wurttemberg, married 28 January 1754 Maria Barbara Krafft, daughter of Matthias and Barbara Kraftt of Staatsburg (Rhinebeck Lutheran Churchbook). A Jacob Smith was enrolled on rhinebeck tax lists February 1754-February 1755 (Dutchess County Tax Lists). A list of some of the children of Jacob Schmidt and wife Maria Barbara follows.
