UPTON -- The funeral for Upton resident Luther C. Pringle, 87, will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at Upton United Methodist Church by the Rev. Joe Spencer. Burial with Masonic and Veterans of Foreign Wars graveside rites, will be i n Upton's Greenwood Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday at the church.
He died Dec. 3, 2005, at Weston County Health Services in Newcastle.
Born June 21, 1918, in Hyannis, Neb., he was the son of Margaret and Homer Pringle; moved to Upton as a young boy; and graduated from high school at age 15. He went to the University of Wyoming in 1937 and received a degree in engineering.
On July 28, 1942, he joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged on Feb. 4, 1946. He then worked in a defense plant until joining the family business, Pringle Motor Co., in 1947. He retired in 1988.
He married Dorothy Lucille Sims on March 14, 1961, in Rapid City, S.D.
The couple settled in Upton.
A dedicated member of Lodge No. 38, A.F. & A.M., since 1939, and Edwin F. Japp VFW Post No. 9758 since 1947, he was an active Boy Scout leader for more than 50 years. He helped organize and remained a member of Upton Volunteer Fire Department; w as one of the first certified emergency management technicians in Wyoming; and drove ambulance for many years.
He helped organize the Upton Commercial Club in the 1950s and actively supported the town's businesses until 1988. When the club reorganized as Upton Chamber of Commerce, he continued as its treasurer, holding that position for 50 years.
His interests included camping, fishing, and hunting; and he passed on some of these passions to his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years of Upton; son, Tom Pringle, and his wife of Cheyenne; daughter, Sherry Leinen, and her husband of Newcastle; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; brother, Wilbert Pringle of N apoleon, Ohio; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
The family would appreciate memorials to Upton Ambulance Fund.
