Mrs Richard Shadle
"Life is a narrow vale between the cold and barren peaks of two eternities. We strive to look beyond these heights, but the only answer is a deeper thought. From the voiceless lips of the unreplying dead there comes no sound, but in the time o f death, hope sees a star and our listening love can hear the rustle of the angel's wing."
Mary Viola (Dutcher) Shadle was born in Williams County, West Unity, Ohio, April 26 1853, and departed this life May 31 1918, aged 65 years, 1 month and 5 days. She was one of a family of five children born to John and Lydia Dutcher.
On July 1 1885, at Wauseon, Ohio, she was united in marriage with Richard Shadle by the Rev S Bartlett. To this union was born one child, Mina, who has very faithfully and lovingly cared for her mother in her last sickness.
At the age of 19 years she became a Christian and united with the UB Church; later she was transferred to the Ottokee ME Church, being a most earnest worker when her health permitted. She was a woman of kindly disposition and had many dear frien ds.
In the Ottokee Grange, of which she was a member since March 31 1886, she has been a faithful worker, and enjoyed and looked forward to these meetings; also the WRC, of which she was a member for years.
She spent the early part of her married life on a farm near Ottokee, now owned by Charles Shadle. For about 22 years she has lived in Ottokee, where she died.
The virtues grow about the holy hearts of home; they cluster, bloom, and shed their perfume around the fireside where love is.
She leaves to mourn, her husband, two brothers, three stepsons, one daughter, and 9 step grandchildren and one grandchild.
As fade the stars at morn away,
Their glory lost in perfect day,
So pass away the friends we love,
Their presence lost in worlds above,
While we o'er their slumbers are weeping.
