<b>RITCHENS, JABES B.</b> Mayville Monitor OLD RESIDENT GONE Jabes B. Richens was born in England June 28, 1842 and died at his home in Dayton Township February 16, 1905 When a small child he came with his parents to America and settled in Pennsylvania. He served in the Union Army for 9 months. Returning to his father's home after his discharge, he stayed about 8 years and then came to Michigan, settling fi rst in Allegan, then coming to Tuscola County, where he has since resided. He was united in marriage to Miss Clara Phelps March 1, 1870. To them were born two children, William and Mary, who with their mother mourn his departure. He united with the church when a young man and at the time of his decease was a trustee of the First M.E. Church of Mayville. He was of a hopeful, cheerful disposition enduring the suffering of his last illness which lasted for several months with true Christian fortitude. The funeral was held a the house Sunday February 19, the services being conducted by his pastor, Rev. Thos. M. Mott and notwithstanding the almost impassable condition of the roads was attended by a large number of friends and acquaintances. The remains were interred in the West Dayton Cemetery.
