Note | Civil War -
Charles joined the 23rd Michigan Infantry Regiment the day it was formed it would appear, He enlisted Aug 9th 1862 at Saginaw, Michigan as a Private and the regimental records show that the unit was organized Sep 13 1862 at East Saginaw, MI.
Charles died of disease while serving in 23rd Infantry (Michigan) on Jan 1st 1863 at Bowling Green, KY and was interfered at the National Cemetery in Nashville.
I don't know if his brother, Benjamin, knew of his brothers death, either when he is listed on a draft census in June of 1863 as a farmer in Genesee County Michigan, or when Ben enlisted in the 23rd on Sep 1st 1864 at Flint, Michigan as a Private.
Ben is mustered out of the 23rd Infantry the day the unit is disbanded, June 28, 1865 at Salisbury, North Carolina. |
