Missing in Action, according to a notification from the war department, Pvt. Gerald Blackmer 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Blackmer, of St. Charles, RD 2, apparently was in the thick of the fighting in the Philippines. Pvt. Balckmer enlisted i n February 1941 and was with the coast artillery on Corregidor. The Blackmers have three other sons and four daughters.

Note | Blackmer, Gerald C. 'Bud', Formerly of Chesaning. Passed away on Saturday morning January 7, 2006 in Owosso. Age 86 years.
He was born on October 7, 1919 in St. Charles Township, the son of Oscar and Minnie (Frelitz) Blackmer. He married Leona Morrissette on October 5, 1946, she predeceased him on July 16, 2005.
He retired from Chesaning Union Schools, where he was a custodian and bus driver for many years. After retiring, he moved to his lake home in Kalkaska. Bud was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating, camping and many other act ivities.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was taken as a prisoner of war in the Philippines by the Japanese for 42 months. Bud was a member of the American Legion, D.A.V. and the V.F.W. Bud was also active in his church as a n usher and very active in the Chesaning Boy Scouts for many years.
Surviving are four children, Jean Ann and Karrie Illner of Washington, Mich.; Dale and Linda Blackmer of Grand Haven; Pat Bonner of Saginaw; Jane and Chris Martin of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters-in- law, Helen Maves, Frances Gasper, Jane Alden, Sue Morrissette, Thelma Morrissette and Betty Blackmer; brother-in-law, Joseph Beckman.
He was predeceased by his wife, Leona, sons, Daniel Blackmer on July 25, 2004 and Donald Blackmer, daughter-in-law, Cheri (McCormick) Blackmer, his parents, sisters, Eileen Hill, Geraldine Schnebelt, Florence Weber and Joyce Beckman, brothers, H arold, Chuck and Robert.
Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Chesaning. Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the Walker-Martin Funeral Home, Chesaning on W ednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and Thursday at church after 10:00 a.m. Scripture service will be 7:00 p.m. Wednesday followed by the Rosary.
